  • Anna's First Story

Anna wrote her first story last week: "Craig and the Snake."  This story was based off of our current reader, "Fred the Frog."  "Fred the Frog" was about a boy named Craig who found a frog and decided to keep him.  The frog got loose and wreaked havoc in the house.  Part of one of our Language Arts lessons was to write a story about what might happen if Craig had found a snake.  This is what Anna came up with.  I helped her spell "found" in the first sentence but then she did all of the spelling on her own after that.  She did a pretty good job!

I believe that this was by far the most writing she's ever done in one sitting, and surprisingly she didn't complain about it one bit.  I did have to give her a few prompts to help her move along with the story, otherwise it probably would have ended up being "Craig found a snake.  He took it home.  The end."  I asked her questions like "what happened when he brought the snake home?  What happened when the snake got loose?"  I'm sure that our Language Arts curriculum will continue to give writing prompts so that her stories will get even better in the future!
